Sterling Silver Clasped Hands BroochThis piece is a reproduction of a silver brooch that was worn, and lost, in Mnster, Germany, at some time during the thirteenth century. It may have attached to the outside of an outfit, or used to secure a shawl, scarf or collar. The 'clasped hands' motif was a common element in medieval jewellery, being used to symbolise faith, friendship and betrothal. These themes, no less significant today than they were those centuries ago, are captured here
